Margaret “Peggy” Galvin Fouquier, born May 27, 1954, devoted wife, beloved mother, and adoring grandmother, peacefully entered eternal rest with our Lord September 20, 2025. She was surrounded by the ones she cherished most—and who cherished her—in her Gonzales, Louisiana residence.
Peggy’s life was one of dedication: to her faith, to her calling in education, and to those she loved dearly —a love shared with her college sweetheart and husband of 46 years. Together, they walked hand-in-hand through many of life’s chapters and happy memories from their days at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (‘76), and their found lifelong friendships. Her friendships were a treasured part of her story. For many years following graduation, Peggy shared a beloved annual tradition with her Alpha Omicron Pi sorority sisters, and eventually with all of their children. Her bond with her ΑO II family held a special place in her heart and felt truly blessed to share in that sisterhood and traditions throughout her life.
Though she made many wonderful friends and memories while residing in Lafayette, Katy, Texas and eventually Gonzales, it was New Orleans that raised her, rooted her, and where she would eventually convince Mike to raise their loving family. It was the city she loved—a love she carried in her heart all her life. During her time as a ‘72 graduate of Mount Carmel Academy, she began to build the foundation of her faith, lasting friendships, and her devotion to helping others.
For the first 15 years of her career, Peggy served her community as a dietitian at Baptist Hospital. But it was in teaching that she found her true calling. Answering a deeper vocation, she devoted 30 years to educating young minds in the Catholic Diocese from 1990 - 2020, including years of service at St. Clement of Rome, Mount Carmel Academy, and finishing at Ascension Catholic. She carried that same warmth and spirit of service into her classroom, where she was more than a teacher—she was a mentor, a guide, and a source of love to her students.
Outside of her dedication to work, Peggy carried a tremendous love of life. From years of playing tennis, running, and biking, to making sure every roller coaster was ridden, every song had her dancing, and if you had a boat—she was on it! Even in the simplest moments, like her neighborhood “bunny hunt” walks with her grandchildren, brought her much joy. She was always embracing life with fearless grace. The life of every gathering, her infectious laughter, her quick wit, her contagious spirit. To know Peggy was to smile.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her every step. It was evident in the quiet strength she carried, the compassion she showed, and the joy she found in prayer, service, and community.
“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in His footsteps.” — 1 Peter 2:21
Peggy is survived by her husband, Mike Fouquier; her children, Jéanne-Marie Heintz (Jonathan) and their children Jonny, Hallie, and Peter; Michael Everette (Sydni) and their children Evie and Everette; and Aimée Fouquier, forever her Mimi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael John and Charlie Wood Galvin, and her siblings John Galvin, William “Billy” Galvin, and Patrick Galvin. She is also survived by her siblings: Delia Ruch (Carl), Mary Galvin, Virginia Boyle (Terry), Michael Galvin (Barbara), Timothy Galvin (Joan), and Kevin Galvin.
Peggy was also deeply blessed with the family she gained through marriage—her sisters-in-law, Janeen Robicheaux (Gary) and Lisa Johnson (Bobby Don), Linda Fouquier, who were truly like sisters to her in every sense. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul Horton Fouquier. May their souls find each other and share a dance once again.
She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins who brought her endless joy and who will carry her memory forward with deep affection.
A visitation for Peggy will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 Highway 73, Prairieville, Louisiana 70769, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in Serenity Oaks Memorial Park, 15304 Hwy 73, Prairieville, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ascension Catholic School, 311 St. Vincent St. Donaldsonville, LA, 70346, honoring Peggy’s lifelong devotion to faith and education.
