Melanie,
I only found out today about your passing from Mrs. Joy. She was so sad and almost in tears. She had just found out from Brother Bobbie. We can't believe it.  I am so sorry, I am late adding my prayers for peace and comfort to your family, but Mrs. Joy and I both are in prayer for Carly, who, of course, every one at church loved.  I will always remember the times you helped with Team Kids and VBS.

I have so many memories I could share but I wouldn’t have enough space. We were as close as two people could be even miles parted us in our later life but that didn’t change a thing. She had a great sense of humor and loved being out doors and gardening was one of her favorite things to do other than playing with her grand baby. We laughed and sometimes couldn’t even remember why we were even laughing. We cried together and prayed together these past two years. We were able to talk about the past and reminisce about times we almost forgot. I never had a sister but she was as close to a sister I could have ever hopes for. I will miss her terribly and I’m just so grateful she will no longer be in pain. I’d rather have her here with us but she is now in a better place. Good bye pal. I loved you with all my heart. This picture was taken in October and oh what a day we had. 

So very sad to hear this news. My husband Grafton went to school with Melanie in Greensburg. I had the pleasure to work with her, years ago.  May her family find comfort and peace during this time of loss. 

Mel was my high school classmate. She was always kind and full of laughter. I enjoyed connecting with her at our class reunions and most recently at her birthday 🎂 party in Amite last March. Mel’s presence  will be greatly missed. Heaven has gained an Angel! Good night my friend. Rest In Peace until we meet again.🙏🏻🌹🙏🏻

I grew up with Melanie in rural St.Helena Parish. Though we were a few years apart in age, I remember going to Red Bluff Church together and Bible School. We were distant cousins on our Dad’s side of family. Condolences to the Harrell family. My prayers are with you all. 

I lived across the street from Melanie when she lived in Decatur, Alabama. I walked with her everyday and spent a lot of time with her and Carmen. She was so full of life, vivacious, and fun. I then found out I moved close to her sister Belinda, and reconnected with her in Garland, Texas a couple of years ago. What a joy it was to find her again, and now she's gone on to a better place. She will be missed.


I loved working with Melanie, she always bright, crazy and fun.  What a generous person she was. More than once she brought in clothes for patients. She will be missed dearly .

Sorry to hear of Melanie's passing. She was a wonderful nurse practitioner to work with. She will be missed greatly. Prayers to her family

Memorial Gathering

Melanie is survived by her daughters, Carmen Coco Geary, Carly Lake Bateman; grandchildren, Bradford Geary, Ames Geary; mother, Audrey Harrell; sister, Belinda Moreland; brothers, Lake Harrell, Brent Harrell, Clyde Harrell, Jr.; significant other, Troy Bateman and multiple beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Harrell, Sr.
