

A U.S. Air Force veteran who served his country from 1954-1958 during the Korean War passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 1:25 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was a native of Darrow and a resident of Gonzales. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales on Wednesday, June 30, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and will resume on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until religious service at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Phil Spano officiating. Burial will be in Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales. He was a kind man with a gentle soul that touched others lives and was loved by many. He was a retired master plumber of 42 years and owner of Martinez Plumbing. Pops loved to hunt, fish, watch sports games and was a loyal Saints and LSU fan, who also enjoyed gardening and just being with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Doris (Nicholas) Martinez; children, Bobby and wife Kalynn Martinez; three other loving children to the very end giving loving care to their dad, Dolaine Martinez, Christy and husband Gary Burnett, Shane and wife Pam Martinez; seven grandchildren, Steven L. Smith II, Nicholas Smith, Laci Martinez, Michael Zarruk, Allison Martinez, Amanda Martinez, and Bryce Martinez; a great-granddaughter, Stevie Smith, and was anticipating the arrival of a third great-grandchild due early September; mother, Mayola (Gautreau) Martinez; two sisters, Dianne (Martinez) Chamberlain and Carolyn Martinez; and a brother, Thomas "Tommy" Martinez. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton J. Martinez Sr. "Nutch;" two brothers, Arnold "Cop-Cop" Martinez and Gerald "Moochie" Martinez; and great-grandson, Steven L. Smith III. Pallbearers will be Steven L. Smith II, Nicholas Smith, Michael Zarruk, Brad Martinez, Harris "Boy" Martinez Jr. and Austin Abadie. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Burnett, Pete Gulla and Ray Minor.
