Our beloved brother, Sandy, 61, of Prairieville, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. After a courageous six-week battle with illness, Sandy went home to be with our Lord and Saviour he so faithfully served.
A 1982 graduate of St. Amant High School, Sandy furthered his education earning a degree in Construction Technologies from the LSU School of Engineering in 1993. He went on to marry Tammie Sue Stafford on December 17, 1994.
Sandy spent his career as a cornerstone of his family’s business, Picou Builder’s Supply, in Gonzales, LA. He was absolutely brilliant at buying material for the company and was widely regarded as the best buyer our CO OP had ever encountered. An early innovator in the digital space, he also founded and operated a successful web-based business “Survival Unlimited” prior to the year 2000 which he ran for over a decade.
Growing up in rural Gonzales, Sandy, was a man of the outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing or horseback riding, he was happiest where land met water. He absolutely loved being on the water whether liquid or snow! He loved boating -especially captaining his 32’ Envision, snow skiing with his family in Colorado and beach time too! The “Sand-Man” was also well known for his stellar dance moves. Truly a joy to witness! However, his true adrenaline-fueled passion was his love for Motocross racing. One summer, he and his brothers built a huge Motocross track on our family land. Together they competed in many a race across the region. The brothers once convinced their sister to race in the Powder Puff competition where she won 2nd place! Sandy raced Motocross for about 5 years and would eventually win 1st Place in the LA/MS Motocross Racing Championship in the Novice 125 Class.
Above all, Sandy was a man of profound faith and was a devout Christian throughout his life. He walked closely with the Lord and found his greatest peace in prayer and the study of Scripture. His deepest desire was for everyone he met to share in the salvation he found in Christ. In his final days, he reminded his loved ones of the promise in 2 Corinthians: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” and that we will meet again in Glory.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Tammie Stafford Picou; his twin sister, Candace “Candy” Linschoten (Niels); sister, Frances Cuccia (Robert); brothers, Daniel Picou (Jody); Christopher Picou (Claire); Arthur Picou, Jr. (Kay), Richard Picou (Crystal); Ronald Picou (Melonie); and Douglas Lloyd (Jennifer); sister-in-law, Margaret “Peg” Picou; maternal aunt, Star Milton (Edgar); and a large beloved family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is reunited in Glory with his parents, Arthur G Picou, Sr. and Patricia Blanchard Picou, and his brother, Donald Picou.
Pallbearers: Daniel Picou, Christopher Picou, Niels Linschoten, Richard Picou, Jr., Harrison Picou Low and Keith Martine.
