Virginia “Ginger” Guzzardo Henderson passed away on March 22, 2021, at the age of 78, after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born on September 27, 1942 in Tickfaw, LA, to Maggie Spitale Guzzardo and John S. Guzzardo. She married her sweetheart George “Buddy” Edwin Henderson Jr. in January 1964. Ginger was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a caring and loving personality and always made people around her feel so special. She made friends everywhere she went. She was a substitute teacher at Dutchtown Elementary School in the 1970’s and 1980’s and was loved by all the students. She was involved with the Church and Hospital Ministry, and loved visiting the ill in hospitals and was often the bright spot in people’s lives. Everyone knew if they needed something, they could always call on her. She loved to garden and enjoyed being outdoors, from her coffee in the morning on her swing watching the birds, to her evening walks with Buddy. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Maggie Guzzardo; brothers, Sam Guzzardo, Guy Guzzardo, Joseph “Joe” Guzzardo and her sister, Josephine “Phenie” Levatino. Ginger is survived by her husband George “Buddy”, her brother Mike and his wife Bebe Guzzardo, her sister-in-law, Jenny, her sister-in-law, Phenie; her son and his wife, George “Butch” and Kathy Henderson and granddaughter, Nicole; her daughter Gina Henderson McGath and her husband, Christopher McGath and her grandson, Logan McGath and her granddaughter, Brianna McGath; and her nieces and nephews, Johnny Guzzardo and JoAnn Sirchia; Greg Guzzardo, Jackie Bergeron and Gary Guzzardo; Brian Guzzardo, Sharon Beers and Cindy Morrison; and Melidna Tynes and Michelle Woods. All of these she loved deeply and touched in some way. Please join us celebrating her life Monday morning, March 29th, 2021, between 9:00-10:30a.m., at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales.
