

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Wallace Joseph “Jaybird” Trahan, III at 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Prairieville. Private burial will follow at a later date. Jay passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. He was 45 years old. Jay was a U.S. Marine veteran and U.S. Army veteran. He was an infantryman and a good soldier. He received the following awards and commendations during his time in the service of his country: 2 Purple Hearts, Combat Infantryman Badge w/star, 2 Army Commendation Medals, NATO Medal, U.S. Navy Achievement Medal, U.S. Marine Combat Action Ribbon, Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, U.S. Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 stars (2nd award), Army Service Ribbon just to mention a few. He served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the campaign against global terrorism in Afghanistan. He had the utmost honor and respect for his fellow servicemen. Although he did not suffer death in combat, his death was a direct result of his combat experience. He was a true Patriot and gave his life for his country. He was known for his sense of humor, his love of animals and his fondness for Cajun music. He will be missed by many. He was survived by his father, Wallace Trahan, Jr. and wife Shirley; mother, Linda Chase and husband Buck; sister, Kim Trahan Jones and husband Kevin; niece, Mindy Jones; nephew, Benjamin Jones and step-siblings, Keith LeJeune, Judy LeJeune and Joann Martin.
