

Known as “Mama B” to her immediate family and church family, Betty will always be known for her generosity, her devotion to her family, her unfailing love for God, and her dedication to Higher Ground Church, where she rarely missed a Sunday even in the midst of physical trials toward the end of her life.
Born October 19, 1929 in Jodi, West Virginia to Carl Shultz Stone and Maggie Irene Pauley Stone, Betty moved with her husband James Aubrey Gill, to Flint, Mich. in 1954. They moved to Tennessee in 1968, where Aubrey preceded her in death in 2001. They were married for 54 years.
Mrs. Gill worked as a registered nurse in surgery and geriatrics for more than 40 years, and enjoyed needlework and quilting. While in West Virginia, Mrs. Gill also sang in The Gill Quartet, a popular gospel singing group.
Survivors include two sons, James Daniel (Sharon) and Johnny Lee (Gwen); Grandchildren Jennifer Walden (Kirk), Bruce Gill (James Turner), Rebecca Jones (Mark), Clint Gill (Keri) and Summer Lamb; Great Grandchildren Joel Walden, Laura Walden Lambert (Matthew), Lexie Walden, Leslie Jones, Sean Jones, Hudson Gill, Harrison Gill, Josh Walden and Jake Walden. Mrs. Gill is also survived by her siblings Nellie Treadway (Allen), Joseph Stone (Lorena) and Jack Stone (Retha).
Mrs. Gill was preceded in death by siblings Leonard, Ruth and Reba.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pastor Mark Jones will officiate. Visitation will also be at Forest Lawn; Monday evening from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
