

Joe Davis Hampton, Sr. - age 87 was born Thursday December 4, 1924 in Springfield, TN to the late Samuel Richard & Lula Walker Hampton and is also preceded in death by dear Aunt & Uncle, Charles & Dora Fox.
He survived by wife of 65 years , Vivian Leonard Hampton and son Joe D. Hampton, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Gallatin, TN; Grandsons Joe D. Hampton III (Jay and DeAnn) of Hendersonville, TN; Bernard (Bernie Mock and Jamie) of Baton Rouge, LA; grandaughter Joanna Hampton of Gallatin, TN; great-grandchildren Emma Noel, Charlee Ann, Breanna, Elijah and Ethan Hampton; sister-in-law Linda Hopper Ferguson, nephew, Chuck Hopper, niece, Cindy Hopper Gentleman all of Ft. Myers, FL.
Mr. Hampton was a World War II Veteran serving 2 years and one month in the U.S. Army, in the European Theater. In 1948 he joined the TN Air National Guard. In January 1949 he was employed full time as an Air Technician, and served as Supply Sgt, Supply Clerk and Base Training Officer. In 1961 he was appointed Base Comptroller and received a direct commission from Master Sgt. to Captain. Lt Col Hampton retired after 34 years, 11 months and 23 days.
Mr. Hampton was a member of Grace Baptist Church for over 60 years, having served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of Grace Choir for many years. He was a member of the Four Square Sunday School Class. Mr. Hampton was an avid golfer, and a member and past president of Two Rivers Senior Golf Association. He received many trophies participating in various golf tournaments. He had one hole in one during his golfing career.
He graduated from East Nashville High School in 1943. Additional education received at U.T. Nashville as well as numerous certificates from the Air War College.
Services will be conducted 1:00 Monday at Grace Baptist Church, 1510 Old Hickory Boulevard, Nashville, TN; Dr. Andre Dugger and Dr. Fred E. A. Johnson officiating. Active Pall bears: Bernie Hampton, Jay Hampton, David Phillips, John Maynard, Bill Brewer, Rick Davis, Earl Melton and Bob Crigger. Honorary Pall bears: Deacons of Grace Baptist Church Four Square Sunday School Class. Family and friends will gather to remember Mr. Hampton at a visitation will be today Sunday June 24, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 Dickerson Rd. Goodlettsville, TN
