Virginia Lee “DeeDee” Cantrell Roland, born August 23, 1930, died Sunday, January 6, 2019, 12:35AM. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Edward Roland, her parents Leo Alexander Cantrell and Willie Ina Shearron Cantrell, her brother Charles Thomas Cantrell (Pat), her brother Kenneth Earl Cantrell (Jean) and her sister, Betty Elaine Cantrell. She is survived by her daughter, Bethany Wynn Brown (Pat), her granddaughter, Calah Brook Beckwith (Jonathan), her grandson Anthony Lain Brown, her sister, Annette Harris (Wayne), her sister, Cleo Wayman (Larry) and her brother, Anthony “Tony” Cantrell (Lynn), as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Virginia was educated in the Nashville/Davidson County public schools and following high school studied briefly at the University of Tennessee at Nashville to hone her skills in the accounting, data processing, computer technology fields. She was a long time member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, was a Sunday School teacher and a long time choir participant. Prior to her membership in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Virginia was a long time member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, and was baptized there at the age of 10. She was an avid golfer and played in many organized leagues, scored two holes in one during her golfing career and enjoyed tournament play.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, January 9th, 2019, from 4:00PM – 8:00PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1150 South Dickerson Rd., Goodlettsville, Tennessee and Thursday, January 10th, 2019, from 10:00AM – 12:00PM at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 1285 New Hope Rd., Joelton, Tennessee. The funeral will be held Thursday, January 10th, 2019 at 12:00PM at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Mr. Perry Davis and assisted by Dillard Tudor, with interment afterward.
