William James "Bill" Garrett, age 91, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. William was born Thursday, June 30, 1932 in Mound City, Illinois; he is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Garrett and Mary Mahan Garrett Brooks.
Bill was a long time member and active leader in the ministries of Dickerson Road Baptist Church. Bill was a Navy Veteran serving on board the USS Valley Forge during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was a highly skilled handyman and mechanic, who loved working with his hands.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Oswald Garrett; children, Jim (Debra) Garrett, Debbie (Dennis) McDuffie, Lisa Hammons; seven grandchildren, Lauren McDuffie, Adam (Chanel) McDuffie, Caleb (Greyson) Hammons, Spencer Hammons, Emily Hammons, Niki Garrett, Kara Garrett; brothers, Harold and David Garrett.
A visitation for Bill will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM, Goodlettsville, Tennessee. with Bro. Lloyd Johnson officiating.
Burial with Navy Honors will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens' Garden of Devotion II with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bill and Betty Garrett Memorial Fund, 350 Crooked Creek Ln, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Contributions will be distributed to causes that Bill was passionate about. Checks may be made payable to their son, Jim Garrett.
