Kimberly Ann Brock Nowicki peacefully passed away in her “House in the Mountains” on January 14, 2025. She made a strong and determined fight against cancer with a positive, hopeful attitude. She was 59 years old.
Kimberly was born to military parents stationed in Anchorage, just a few days following the 9.2 magnitude Great Alaska earthquake on April 2, 1965. James and Gloria Brock lived in a mobile home and loved their daughter dearly! The family grew and Kim welcomed Karen and Kirk to the world as brother and sister. They lived in several places during her youth including Oregon, Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Nevada.
On a cool December evening in 1980 she met Airman James Nowicki who asked her on a date to see a movie before reporting to his first duty station. She married James 2 years later in Las Vegas, Nevada. She gave birth to Dianne after a year and poured out her love to a happy baby in Oscoda, Michigan. A doting mother, she loved making sure Dianne was healthy, well dressed, and wholesomely active. Kimberly, Dianne and James shared many adventures England, Kansas (a tornado!), the island of Guam, Arkansas, Turkey, and Arizona.
Kimberly always did what she could to make ends meet for the small family and after Dianne started pre-school she worked many hard jobs. From cleaning to elderly care, military base phone operator, cashier, cook, hospital switchboard operator, and resource management specialist to name a few. She also graduated from nursing school and loved to be in the operating room for training.
Kim loved to see exciting places and always planned fun trips for the family. Skiing in the Rockies, overnight stays in grand British hotels, weekends in Copenhagen, Denmark, eye popping travels in Tokyo, Japan, a romantic stay in a Cappadocia cave hotel, and several exciting Disney Park stays.
By far though, her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Blake, Kate, Claire and Troy all know the boundless love Grandma personified. Grandma was always there to change the diaper, give a fresh bath, adoring hugs or warm meal. A weekend stay at Grandma’s house was a treat indeed!
Kimberly was much more than the sum of the days of her life. She gave all and always. She was joy, laughter, beauty, relief, love, soothing support and more. She welcomed strangers into her home in times of need, so they could recover and have a fresh start to life. Kim was a beloved friend too! She had the easiest demeanor and soothing gentle voice. She spent endless hours just talking with her friends, laughing and relating the wonderful and interesting stories of their lives.
Her remains will be laid to rest near her granddaughter Claire Violet who she loved so dearly.
A visitation for Kimberly will be held Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Thompson Funeral Chapel (926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, Arizona 85338) followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
