Alfonso Schipani was born on July 21, 1939 in Naro, Sicily to Vincent and Grace Schipani. He has been married to Josephine Schipani for 50 years. Together they have four children, Grace Schipani, Lisa Simmonds, Alfonso Schipani, Jr. and Christine Bomia; and four grandsons, Cole Simmonds, Matthew Schipani, Kevin Bomia and Zachary Simmonds. He is survived by his wife Josephine, his children, grandchildren, and brother Charles Schipani. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jenny Poli.
His family came to the U.S. with nothing but the hopes of achieving the American Dream. Alfonso's oft-quoted motto of "slowly but surely" was how he always approached life and its challenges. Working two jobs to support his family, he made many sacrifices throughout the years to pursue his dream of real estate investment and providing a better future for his family. He achieved his goals in purchasing and personally managing rental properties, in addition to owning and operating a successful deli and pet supply store. Alfonso was a self-taught handyman and entrepreneur, and no job or goal was too daunting for him to successfully achieve.
Alfonso was a devoted husband and father, always putting his family first. His generosity to his family and friends knew no bounds. He was strong, kind, young at heart, filled with vitality and selflessness... always wanting to help others yet expecting nothing in return.
An avid golfer, Alfonso loved spending Sundays on the golf course with his brother Charles. At home, he enjoyed working in the yard with his wife, and together they created a garden sanctuary that included a personally designed and built stream and koi pond, vegetable garden and fruit trees.
Alfonso was dearly cherished by his wife, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. To his four children, he was the steadfast and strong foundation of their lives - a hero who always saved the day. He was a proud Nonno, and loved to play with and spoil his four grandsons.
No words can adequately describe the impact that Alfonso made in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him. His passing leaves a tremendous void that can never be filled. He will always be missed, his love will always be cherished, and he will live on forever in our hearts and in our memories.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests giving blood in honor of Alfonso or donating to the National Hemophilia Foundation.
