I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. John 11:25
Beryl Cynthia Forbes was born on November 24, 1927 from the union of her parents Albert Forbes and Charlotte Newton Forbes in Baillieston, Jamaica.
Beryl was born at home. Her parents finally travelled to Spalding to register her on May 18, 1928 so that date became her official birthday. Beryl was a beautiful, quiet and obedient child growing up. She had 8 siblings and 4 half siblings. Everyone grew up together and got along. Her older sister Edith stated, “We have never had an argument and Beryl was the nicest and sweetest person.” When Beryl was 10 years old she went to live with her aunt, Bunn, in Brownstown, Jamaica.
Her aunt did not have any children at the time and loved Beryl dearly as her own. When Beryl was a young adult she met a young man that swept her off her feet. From this union came her oldest child, Derrick, whom she affectionately called Charlie. When Charlie was a year-old Beryl had an opportunity to go to England to go to school and live with her younger brother, Horace. She took the opportunity and left her son Charlie in the safe care of her sister Edith to make a life in England.
Beryl went to Nursing School and made many friends. One day a friend introduced her to a man named George Dee. Beryl quickly fell in love with George and they were married. Through that union 3 children were produced, Michael, Deborah, and Tracey. After Michael was born in 1962, George and Beryl decided to journey to the United States of America. They travelled to Boston, Massachusetts on the Queen Elizabeth II.
In 1981, Beryl and George’s union dissolved, and she embarked on a new life. She started her new journey by travelling. She took a Greyhound bus from Boston, MA to Poughkeepsie, NY to Winnipeg, Canada and ended the excursion in Miami, Florida. From Miami, Beryl travelled to Orlando, where she settled down and bought a home. A few months later, Deborah and Tracey joined her in Longwood, FL. and Beryl discovered the Altamonte Springs Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she has been a member for the past 38 years. Beryl worked tirelessly to provide for her children and make everyone comfortable.
In 1999, Beryl began to show signs of forgetfulness. She had to stop driving in 2001. Eventually she was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s. She had a long, hard struggle with the disease and required constant supervision. On December 2, 2018, Beryl had a fateful fall and fractured her hip. It was not meant for her to recover from that trauma.
On January 7, 2019 Beryl Cynthia Forbes Dee quietly slipped away into her forever sleep at home surrounded by family, love and respect . . . just as she wished.
Beryl was preceded in death by her brothers Herbert, Edgar, Cecil and Victor and sisters Iris and Gloria. Her legacy continues to live on through her children Derrick and his wife Marjorie, Michael and his wife Ines, Deborah and her husband Howard, Tracey and her husband Androny; siblings Edith, Joyce, Horace, Roy, Ica, Dudley, and Monica; and grandchildren Jamel and his wife Amber, Adrian and his wife Shannon, Manoucheca, D’mitri, Cameron, Kyle, Aubyn, and Camille; and great-grandchildren Noah and Zen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
