Cecilia Mangaoang Mapile, better known as Mama Cion and Grandma Cion, passed away peacefully at 99 years old on June 6, 2017 at home in Orlando, Florida with her children by her side. Cecilia was born on August 8, 1917, in Aringay, Philippines, the daughter of Demetria Dacanay and Alejandro Mangaoang.
In 1946, Cecilia married the love of her life Clement Mapile and started a family. She loved and raised her four children, their families and all her grandchildren. She loved traveling the world with family and friends on pilgrimages to holy lands, experiencing new countries, meeting new people, and taking road trips to care for each and every one of her children and families. Cecilia loved cooking, nurturing her family, raising her grandchildren and teaching everyone all her life lessons. She passed on family stories of her remarkable life, growing up in the Philippines, her special moments and memories, the tribulations and adversity she had overcome, and life during the war. Cecilia impacted every person she met with her kind smile and warm heart. She also let you know every time she won her favorite game, solitaire! Most especially, Cecilia, Mama Cion, Grandma Cion, was fully devoted to her faith in God and her family.
Cecilia is survived by her sisters, Modesta Mangaoang, Trifona Mangaoang, Araceli Mangaoang; her daughter Cecilia Dones and husband Oscar Dones, her daughter Anabella Dones and husband Jose Dones; her son, Clemente Mapile and wife Nelia Mapile, and son Isidro Mapile and wife Josefina Mapile; her 10 grandchildren, Eileen Dones, Rachelle Newcomb, Oscar Dones, Cecille Klein, Michael Dones, Christopher Dones, David Mapile, Rowena Mapile, Patrick Mapile, Lisa-Marie Mapile; her 7 great-grandchildren, Lani Mackay, Luke Newcomb, Ethan Mapile, Audrey Mapile, Graham Klein, Drussie Dones, and Jordana Klein and a number of loving relatives and close friends.
There will be a wake on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, FL 34734 for all family and friends. The funeral service will be held the following day on Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5125 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando, FL 32819.
