Doris grew up on a farm in the tiny town of Yoder, Kansas. Her grandparents were Amish, and her parents converted to Mennonite when they married. She was very close to her brothers, sisters, and extended family her whole life, and loved traveling to Kansas and Michigan for family reunions.
Bob met Doris in Hutchinson, Kansas in March of 1957. Their beautiful love story began, and 2 weeks later they were married. Their life together brought 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren into the world.
Doris was a devoted military wife for 27 years, moving to many states, and even living a couple of years in England. She and Robert loved to travel, and owned multiple RV’s that they took all over the United States. They lived in an RV for a few years after they retired, and traveled full time.
In addition to being a wonderful mother to 4 children, Doris held many types of jobs throughout her life. She worked at military base exchange stores in a couple of different states. She worked as a secretary for many years with a computer company in Orlando. She also had multiple jobs in childcare. She was so good with children and loved working with them.
She was a devoted wife, mother and loved God. She took care of Robert for most of her life until the disease didn’t allow her to anymore.
She liked reading, especially Danielle Steel novels and Reader’s Digest. She loved classic country music and going to their concerts and shows. She and Bob liked to stay home together and watch TV shows and movies. She liked to do puzzles and play card games. She enjoyed collecting cookie jars and tea cups. She loved flowers and a nice cup of hot coffee. She liked taking pictures and making memories wherever she went. She adored spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was a wonderful cook, and we all looked forward to her desserts at our family gatherings. She had the most beautiful smile that was contagious, and she loved to laugh. Her husband, Bob, kept her entertained her whole life, with his many jokes and pranks that he liked to play on friends and family. There was never a shortage of laughter in their household.
Doris will forever be remembered for her selflessness. She was always putting others first and her heart was filled when she was taking care of others. Now she is at peace and will be taken care of by our Heavenly Father.
