

FLORENCE “FLO” NEIDIG of Orlando passed away Sunday, October 3 at the age of 96. She was born July 6, 1914 in Detroit, Michigan to David -nd Lula Southmayd Harper. She attended the University of Michigan and the Pennsylvania School of Social Work. She married Egbert W. “Bert” Neidig and lived in Detroit, Cincinnati, and Kansas City before moving to Orlando in 1958. While living in Kansas City and Orlando she was active in the League of Women Voters, serving as President of the Orange County League and as a member of the State Board of the League of Women Voters. She was a member of the original Orange County Charter Commission and served on three subsequent Charter Review Commissions. She was actively involved in several other studies of local government. Mrs. Neidig was appointed by Governor Graham to the Florida Elections Commission and to a committee on election law reform. She served on several local boards, including Community Coordinated Child Care, the Young Women’s Community Club [now the Women’s Residential and Counseling Center] and the Community Service Center of South Orlando and was a member and former President of the Orlando Opera Guild. She was a member of the Rosalind Club and the Rotary Ann Club. She was predeceased by her husband and by her oldest son, Peter. She is survived by her sons, Michael and his wife, Nancy, of Highlands, North Carolina, and John and his wife, Barbara of Portland, Oregon as well as grandchildren, Harper and Cecile, Adam Neidig, Mary Silver and Laetitia Odermen, and her great grandchildren, Miles Harper Silver and Charlotte Grace Silver. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 9 at 1:30 pm at Saint Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church, 6316 Matchett Rd.
