Helen was a cherished member of the Masonic community; belonging to several organizations in which she was active until her recent illness.  She will be remembered fondly by all of us who knew her and basked in the warmth of her smile.  She will surely be missed.

Helen was a wonderful woman, mother, and servant of the Lord and his church. I will always remember her.

Helen Simons, along with her daughter, Alexandra, was a good friend of my late wife, Donna, and mine after Donna and I moved to Orlando and joined the church that Helen and Alexandra were attending. Helen was a devoted servant of her Lord and his church at all times, and a good mother to Alexandra as well as a good friend to the people she associated with. We were friends even after Donna and I moved back to New Orleans in early 1997. I made several visits to Orlando thereafter, and on each occasion I was able to meet Helen and Alexandra and enjoy their kindness and warmth. My last visit was in 2006. Here is a picture of Helen and Alexandra during that visit. My thoughts and prayers now rest with Alexandra as she now faces life without her mother. I wish I could come to Florida and be with her. But we are approaching the Christmas season, and in the Gospel of John, we read, "And the light shines into the darkness, but the darkness did not comprehend it."(John1:5). May the light of Jesus Christ shine into Alexandra's life which has now been so darkened.
