John Collins – born John Joseph Economopoulos on October 14th, 1930, to the late Spiros Economopoulos and the late Elizabeth Krautsak Economopoulos died on July 27th 2020, of cardiac arrest. An honors graduate of the University of Maryland in 1954, a former Air Force Officer during the Korean War, and former Press Secretary of the late Senator William F. Knowland of California, John entered the career civil service in the late 1950s and rose through the ranks to retire as a top executive with the Federal Housing Administration. John was preceded in death by his beloved first wife of 28 years Anne Buckley Collins; his sisters Margaret Barnes, Elizabeth Miller, Helen Collins and Christine Johnson and his brother Nicholas Collins; his brothers-in-law Ray Barnes, Joseph Miller, and Reuben Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Judy Collins; daughter Dr. Kathleen (James Brooks) Clary-Brooks, son John, Jr. (Lisa) Collins; granddaughter Ashley (Michael, Jr.) Fisher, grandson Travis (Mona) Clary; great grandsons Tyler and Jacob Clary and Michael III and Noah Fisher and his great granddaughter Hope Fisher. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Carole and Gibby Adkins; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved Shih Tzus, Nimi, Skippy, and Totsi. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St Jude’s Hospital for Children, the ASPCA, or a charity of your choice.
