John Bernard Young passed away peacefully at home in Orlando, FL on March 15, 2017. He went to be with his heavenly father at the age of 102. He was born in St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies to Canute and Annie Young (Nee Goldsmith). He is pre-deceased by siblings, Charles Young, Urcella Simpson, Gertrude Young, Annie Pink, Canute Young, Alvin Young, Gladys Campbell, Mary Morris, Catherine Grant, Florence Connor and Lionel Young. He is survived by his close friend and brother, Benjamin (Boysie) Young. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Dr. Owen Fraser of Orlando, Florida, his son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Patricia Young of Elmsford, New York and five grandchildren, Shakira Robertson of Denver, Colorado, Clayton Young of Boca Raton, Florida, Elyse Glenn of Orlando, Florida, Aprill Young of Elmsford, New York and Arielle Young of Elmsford, New York. He is also loved by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Due to the untimely death of his father, John spent a great deal of time in the tutelage of the Solomon family who encouraged him in his first career as a bus driver for the Lindsay Corporation in Jamaica. It was during his bus route that he noticed a beautiful young woman as she rode her bicycle to work. They met and soon married! Cynthia was his loving partner for seventy seven years. The family migrated to the United States in 1949 and established residence in Brooklyn, New York. He made the important decision to make a career change into the Health Care Field. He became an employee in the surgical supplies department of a local hospital. With hard work and several creative suggestions, he became the head of surgical supplies at the Francis Delafield Hospital in New York, New York until its closing in 1975 after 24 years of service to New York’s indigent cancer patients. He was then transferred with the city hospital health system to North Central Bronx Hospital where he worked until retirement in 1978. Upon retirement, he and Cynthia moved to Longwood, Florida. He soon became a passionate gardener. His yard became the envy of the neighborhood! Every day he could be seen digging, planting and tending to his crops. His home and yard were his pride and joy! Unfortunately, after many years of independence, he realized that he needed help. He and Cynthia moved to Orlando to live with his daughter and son-in-law. His gardening skills were soon rewarded with a “Yard of the Month” sign in front of this new home! Throughout his life, he remained deeply spiritual. He prayed frequently, read his bible daily and he attended Mass, receiving communions from the members of Holy Family’s Eucharistic Ministry. He loved the Lord! Saturdays were often spent listening to the religious music. When his dear Cynthia passed away at Christmas 2016, he spoke frequently of their future reunion in Heaven. He could not wait to be with her again. He joined her within two and a half months of her passing.
