November 18, 1942 - November 5, 2022
Johnnie was born in Elba, Alabama to Lena Eldridge and Raymond Calhoun on November 18, 1942. He was the oldest of his six brothers and sisters: Shirley, May, Ray, Mable, Thomas, and David. He lived in Alabama for a short time before moving with his family to Florida and spent much of his years in the Ocoee and Winter Garden areas.
Johnnie was a father of eleven kids. With his wife Faye, they had 5 children: Terri, Tammy, Linda Faye, Michael, and Christopher. With his longtime love, Linda they had 4 children: Patricia, Joy, Lynn, and Krista. With his last wife Marilyn, they had two children: Margaret and Laura. (Not in that particular order mind you – that’s a whole other story) Johnnie was also a grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle to many. So many in fact that I am afraid to try to name or number them in fear of missing some. But he loved each and every one.
Johnnie had a few different professions over his lifetime. He was a dump truck driver, worked with a carnival driving a semi-truck and running the Ferris wheel, and even started his own tree service business. Ultimately, he retired in 2014 from Heller Bros Packing Company in Winter Garden where he ran their box department for approximately 18 years.
Many have heard the stories of a young and wild Johnnie Calhoun and the mischief he would get into and most of those stories are true. Johnnie was a no-nonsense, tell it to you straight type of guy. All the way until the end. If he told you he was going to do something, you could bet he was going to do it. And he would expect the same from you.
Johnnie was called home to be with God on November 5, 2022. Only two weeks prior to his 80th birthday. Although it was sudden and left many of us to mourn this man that was so special to all of us, he would want us to love and comfort one another and know that “the day that we fear as our last is but the birthday of our heavenly eternity”.
