When he was born his parents lived with his grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Budhan Sookchan. Several years later his parents moved into their own home across the street but he was so attached to his grandparents that he remained with them and his first cousins who also lived there. At the age of 5 he attended No. 48 Canadian Mission School where he walked about 1 mile to and from school daily. He was an avid student which prompted his parents to send him to further his education at Chandi Singh High School at Rosehall Corentyne where he received tutelage from his uncle and mentor Joseph Sookchan. After 4-5 years he took his G.C.E exam and passed 8. He then attended and graduated Corentyne High School in 1965.
In 1968 he migrated to New York City and shortly after, he met and married the love of his life Seroj Rawana on August 8, 1969. With whom he had 2 beautiful children Joseph & Jennifer Sookchan.
In NYC he worked at Brookville neck wear for over 30 years as a Production Manager where he provided employment for all new arrivals from Guyana which included friends, relatives and any fellow countryman in need of employment.
In 2004 he moved to Clermont Florida to retire and his children soon followed afterwards towing along his most prized possessions, his grandchildren.
Weeks has impacted and brightened the lives of many with his warmth, friendliness, generosity and charisma. He embraced his life with patience and adaptability. He was always a good sport with no grudge or animosity for anyone. His traits undeniably radiated calmness, empathy and kindness, always relaxed and happy with no openly displays of anger.
We are all heartbroken but he has left a legacy of treasured memories and that is what matters most in this life, the dash between the years.
He is survived by his wife, Seroj; his children, Joseph and Jennifer; his grandchildren, Savannah, Sarah, Julian, Samantha and Jordan; his brothers, ‘Brother,’ ‘Cakes,’ Dilip and Ritchie (deceased); and his sisters, Dro (deceased), Serojanie, Rita, Kamini and Meena.
