Kaylen Eve Hales Cookson, age 77, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Henry Hales and late Esther Rau Hales on February 25, 1941 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
After graduating from LDS Business College, she took a job in Denver, Colorado. There she met, fell in love with and soon married Rodmond Manning Cookson on August 10, 1963. No matter where they lived (Colorado, Oregon, Maryland, St. Croix, U.S.V.I. or Florida) she was a positive influence on all those she came in contact with.
Whether caring for her family, serving in her church or working as a legal secretary, she brought her dedication, compassion, organizational skills and witty humor to everything she did. Kaylen was an accomplished pianist and organist and played for church and choirs her whole life. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, golfing and bowling.
Her favorite role may have been that of “Grammy.” She loved, loved spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Kaylen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is preceded in death by her brother Jim Hales. She is survived by her husband, Rodmond Manning Cookson; sons, Jeffrey Rod, Scott Allen (Juliann) and Brad Hales Cookson; grandchildren, Evan Scott, Courtney Ann and Jace Tyler Cookson; and sister Mary Ellen Reid.
