

Leon Golden passed away on July 3, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley after 62 years of marriage; his brother, Nathan, sister, Dorothy, and his parents, Anna and Jacob Golden. He leaves, Nephews, Richard (Gayle) and Paul (Judy) Sandman, located in MA; niece, Jane Golden of Occidental, CA; and brother-in-law, Gary (Helene) Becker of Longwood, FL.
He was a decorated WWII combat Veteran of the US Army. He received a combat Infantry Badge, a Purle Heart, A Bronze Star and two Battle Stars.
Leon was a graduate of Commerce High School, Class 41A, located in Worchester, MA. Under the G.I. Bill, he received a BS Degree in Accounting from Syracuse University. He spent his career as a civilian employee, for the Department of Defense, United States Air Force. After stints in Washington, DC, and Southern Germany, he proudly retired as “Chief Civilian Accountant” for the Tactical Air Command, Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, VA.
He constantly reminded all that his greatest accomplishment was his marriage to Shirley. Mr. G was a strong Human Rights Activist and was reluctant to discuss his influence in hiring the first black supervisor in accounting and Finance at LAFB. His cracking the glass ceiling for women by promoting them to Major Air Command levels, he openly assisted his secretaries to higher graded positions.
He also mentored several Airmen who attained the highest rank available (E9). He was noted for his many outstanding contributions made to the accounting and fiancé community during his successful career. His personal commitment and aggressiveness served as a superb example to others. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. He had a great sense of humor.
After the death of his wife, he moved to a continuous care retirement community “Village on the Green” located in Longwood, FL. Calling his move a second life. He served on their “Finance Committee” and was President of its Local Chapter, 125, Florida Life Care Residents Association (FLICRA), and was active member of the Health Committee. He will be missed.
Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 8, at 10am at Congregation of Reform Judaism Cemetery, Gotha, FL.
