She was born August 26, 1931, in Alabama to Clayton and Cora Tolar. She was one of nine children.
She fancied herself a “looker” until the day she passed on. She kept her hair jet black and her waistline small. This was accentuated by her love of clothes and shoes, frequenting second-hand stores for new treasures.
She retired from Princeton Elementary School as a permanent substitute teacher, making a difference in many children’s lives. She was known as strict, but loving, keeping even the rowdiest groups under control.
She drove an orange VW bug, she fondly named “Herbie”, for many years. The car had almost as much personality as she did. She loved to dance, especially to country music, but only after she kicked her shoes off. She enjoyed summer trips to the beach but was really a homebody at heart, with the exception of her Friday nights out.
Lois took great pride in her family and is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Manning and Shirley Piland (Ed), grandchildren Cindy Mullin (Jay), Christopher Crozier (Nicole), Adam Piland – her favorite (Leslie), and Tiffany Piland, great-grandchildren Dalton Crozier, Darren Crozier, Dylan Crozier, Ryan Mullin, Evan Mullin, and David Piland.
A private, family ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 10, 2021, 2:00 PM, at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Foundation.
