Mary was born on July 1, 1928, in Port Glasgow, Scotland, to Catherine and John McKechnie. She carried her Scottish roots with pride throughout her life, along with the warmth, strength, and kindness that would come to define her.
In 1959, Mary and her beloved husband, Albert, began a new chapter together when they immigrated to the United States,
first settling in New Jersey before making their home in Orlando, Florida in 1960. It was there that they built a life centered around family, love, and community.
Mary was a devoted mother and a deeply caring member of her community. She worked for the State of Florida until her retirement, dedicating her time and compassion to caring for and assisting mentally and physically challenged children. It was work that reflected her heart—Mary had a special gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Along with her husband “Bert,” Mary raised five children and created a home filled with love.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bert, and her eldest son Al. She is remembered by her children: Janice, Marion, Robert (Brenda), and Ginny . She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Bonny (Marcus), Jennifer (Andy), Jason, Riley (Laura), Scott (Jesse), Kevin, Katie and Jennifer (BJ) Her love extended to her cherished great-grandchildren: Grant, Gabby, Lauren, Chelsea, Payden, Alden, Cameron, and Jana, and her Great- great grandchild, Riley Riller. She is also survived by her loving brother Joseph, (AU) her niece and nephew Catherine (Les) and Andrew (Lindsey) and their children who live in Scotland.
“Nanny,” was the heart of the family, whose wisdom and love will live on in the many lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sacred Heart Foundation can be made in Mary’s name.
