Patty was born April 21, 1947 in Baltimore, MD to Rupert “Rue” and Marion “Virginia” Rumpf. The family decided to move to Orlando after taking a vacation when she was 5, and she lived in the area the remainder of her life. After graduating Edgewater High School in 1965, she married her husband, Jerry. They would remain happily married for nearly 58 years and had one son, Jason.
She lived a vibrant and colorful life that was full of activity and adventure. With her beloved Jerry at her side, they crisscrossed the country together, logging many hours and miles in cars, RVs, VW buses, cruise ships, trains and airplanes. They especially loved spending time in the mountains, and would often take trips there to visit with friends and family in North Carolina and Tennessee.
Patty enjoyed spending time with many of her friends that she grew up with from elementary, junior high and high school right up until the day she passed. She was on the organization committee for not only her class reunions, but also for Jerry’s class, despite him graduating 2 years prior to her.
A lifelong tennis player, Patty enjoyed playing in amateur leagues at numerous locations around Orlando. As with her high school friends, she maintained lasting relationships with many of her teammates and would often get together for a party or take a trip with ladies she knew for over 40 years. She discovered a passion for decorative painting later in life and would spend much of her free time painting items to give to friends and family for gifts.
Patty always took pride in her work. After working many years as a bookkeeper and housewife, she took on the responsibility of running the property rental businesses of both her father and brother following their passing in 1998. For nearly 20 years, she worked tirelessly to operate the business and care for her mother until her passing in 2017. Even as she battled cancer, she did her best to prepare Jason to take over the business while running it from her hospital bed.
She was preceded in death by her father Rupert Rumpf, mother Marion “Virginia” Rumpf, and brother Robert “Bobby” Rumpf. She is survived by her husband Jerry, son Jason (Natalie Harris), nephews Kenneth Rumpf (Sherrie) and Ryan Rumpf, and grandnieces Gracie, Ivey and Clover Rumpf.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, FL on Tuesday, July 25 with Visitation at 10:00am, Celebration of Life at 11:00am and Committal Ceremony at 12:00pm.
