Regine Romulus was born on February 27, 1986 to Marie Jean and Jude Romulus in Bridgeport, Connecticut. At the age of 3, her mother moved her to Orlando, Florida along with her older sister, Winelda Romulus and younger brother, Steven-Anthony Romulus.
Even at a young age, Regine was very active. She perfected baton twirling while being active in gymnastics, cheerleading, youth groups, and much more. At home, she found herself getting into trouble playing with childhood friends. Regine was a self-proclaimed tomboy, who enjoyed climbing trees, playing in dirt, riding bikes, and being adventurous. Her brave spirit sometimes led her to the hospital with bumps and bruises, but these visits to the “hotel hospital” only fueled her desire to seek bigger challenges. Though those days were more fun than one could explain, beautiful Regine settled into her feminine ways when she entered Meadowbrook Middle School.
In middle school, Regine’s spunky personality brought her many lifelong friends. Her favorite colors became black and yellow and she began to love things such as pizza, McDonalds, and The Baby Sitters Club book series. Regine became extremely active in school. She was a proud member of the basketball and track teams, BADGE, and Club Pride. She was always seen with a smile and her memorable God given beauty mark right in the middle of her forehead. During these years, she also found a love for animals in her pet cat, Tiny and dog, Sweetie. After her years as a Mustang at Meadowbrook Middle School, she joined her big sister at Evans High School.
Regine was a true Trojan while attending Evans High School. She even made it a point to try and show her school spirit on the field as a charismatic cheerleader. She was hurt by the news that she did not make the freshman cheerleading squad, but joy soon wiped away those tears when she was asked to join her big sister, Winelda, as a varsity cheerleader. Throughout high school, Regine was known for her beauty, smarts, fierce hairstyles, bubbly personality, kindness, and school spirit. She continued to be active in school, joining many clubs and cheering on the football team every Friday while her little brother, Steven, cheered her on from the band stand. Regine’s high school years were blessed with precious memories including becoming an aunt and Godmother to her nephew, Jeremiah Walden. Regine treated him as her own, whether it was going to the arcade or to cheerleading practice. She would take Jeremiah everywhere. Regine graduated from Evans High School in 2004 and shortly after attended Valencia College, majoring in Computer Engineering. She always had a sense of independence, which prompted her to always secure a job. That determination first landed her a position with the famous Universal Studios Florida. Yet Regine always had larger aspirations and set her sights on the best, ultimately acquiring her last position with JPMorgan Chase. She made many friends at all of her jobs, as she enjoyed the company of her coworkers and welcomed the diversity they brought into her life.
In December of 2006, Regine’s father, Jude Romulus, went on to be with the Lord. She used this time of grief to get to know her other siblings Wisley (Charlie), Dolores, Judex, Juderielle, Judeson, and Jordan. She couldn’t wait to visit her brother Wisley (Charlie) and would always talk about him as if she saw him the previous day. She made sure to keep in touch with Judex, Juderielle, and Judeson as well. Even though she was not able to meet all of her siblings in person, it never severed the connection she built in her heart with them, as she loved each of them dearly.
During her wonderful years with us, Regine was blessed with two beautiful daughters; O’Raiyah Thompson born on March 8, 2007 and Barbie Thompson born on October 10, 2008. Regine’s daughters meant the world to her and she was always the best mother she could be to both of them. She enjoyed giving them nicknames and dressing them up, but most importantly, she loved them the same way her mother, Marie Jean, loved her – unconditionally.
In 2010 Regine was diagnosed with cancer and fought the good fight for two years. Even in her last days, she did her best to take care of herself, her two girls, and even her little dog, Max. Even as Regine went through chemo, radiation, and physical therapy, her joy-filled spirit never left her and neither did her family or friends. She continued to smile, reminisce, and not take a day for granted. Regine continued to go to church at St. Andrews Catholic Church and Chain Breakers International Church. Although Regine has passed on sooner than we hoped, we continue to remember the joy she brought to us. Her stories made us laugh and her laugh made us smile. She was there with a helping hand whenever anyone needed it and offered advice when she knew we needed to hear it. She loved everyone around her dearly and was truly one of the kindest individuals one could ever meet. She was a delightful daughter, a spectacular sister, a cheerful cousin, an adoring aunt, a marvelous mother, and a fantastic friend. She was known as Ray Ray, Boogie, Tate, Shug, Gigi, Reggie, and more. She was a beautiful woman with a wonderful spirit and our gift from God. She will truly be missed, yet will live on in our hearts forever.
