Mrs. Bain,

I was thinking of Richard today when I came across your address while updating my book and searched for him on the Web.  Sadly came across his obit.  He was always so gracious to me as his VA head and neck surgeon and was a prince to my twins!  We fondly think of you both every Christmas while hanging our beautiful "Presidential Christmas" ornaments.  I am sorry for your loss. It was with sincere sadness that Kim and I learned of Dick's passing.  He was a special man and immense talent. Although I didn't have the opportunity to work with him on active duty, he was a wonderful personal advisor and supporter as a member of the Central Florid USO Board of Directors.  

We fondly remember Dick performing in many of our USO Shows at Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, where he never failed to "steal the show!"

Our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy for your great loss.  

How very grateful we feel to have known and associated with Dick over the years when we played in the Navy Band together.  He was a great musician and a tremendous emcee.  

How grateful I (Jeanne) am to have had a conversation at the reunion a few years ago.  I was able to tell him at that time,(I was too shy and too much in awe of him when I was younger), how much "class" he added to the concerts. He got choked up and had tears when I said it, so I'm  happy to finally have had the opportunity to voice those sentiments.

Very sad to hear of Dick's passing. Although I never got to serve with him I heard all the  stories about his amazing musical abilities and how he thrilled audiences all over the country. Dick was also very supportive of me and my career. I felt very honored to call him my friend.

Dick was a wonderful musician and a great entertainer.  He knew how to put the audience at ease.  We have many fond memories, both on tour and in concerts ~ me on the stage and Carol in the audience.  In recent years, it was great to see and joke with him at the alumni reunion. As a rookie soloist on my first Navy Band tour in 1970 I found myself being mentored by Dick.  His wealth of knowledge and approach to being an ultimate professional in music has always stayed with me in my singing career.  Thanks Dick, you are the greatest!

To Dick's family; sincere sympathy for you at this trying time.  My memories of Dick start in 1960, until his retirement.  I was fortunate to acquire his assignment as Concert Band Commentator until Cdr. Stauffer's retirement.  Big shoes to fill. I always enjoyed Dick's solos, especially the audience responses while on our spring tours.  I will never forget our conversations while attending several alumni functions. With fond memories, Bob & Barbara Palmer, the Villages, Florida.

I remember when I first joined the band, Dick was very warm and welcoming. He was a wonderful musician and narrator. I always marveled at his and musicianship.

I served with Dick in the US Navy Band for serveral years and stayed in touch after he joined the staff at Disney in Orlando. He loved performing and was a consummate entertainer. Sympathies to the entire family. I'm sure you'll have many wonderful memories to carry you through the initial grieving and loss, leaving warm smiles to last a lifetime.

I remember with much fondness our many concert trips and Dick playing those wonderful harmonica solos.  And the audiences loved it all!!  He was a great addition to the Navy Band.

I had the pleasure of hearing Dick play at the colb college campus in watervile maine.. Fantastic performance..

Great sadness to hear this news. Mr. Bain was a consummate professional. He was always very nice to all the Scimonelli boys when we would go to hear the Band. Always loved "The Hot Canary"! All our love from the Scimonelli family.

I will miss Uncle Dick. He had a wonderful sense of humor.  Aunt Pat and Uncle Dick hosted many of their 18 nieces and nephews on Pat's side of the family. I/we have great memories of his harmonica performances, site seeing in DC. and visiting Disney World.

Mr Bain was a true gentleman. We talked about music, travel and food. He will be missed at Bay Hill.

Had the honor of knowing Mr. Bain for the last five years.  An accomplished Veteran, husband and father.  Hope he is leading a marching band in Heaven!
