

Richard Vaught was born at home, the third of 14 children on November 20, 1928 to Virginia and Roy Vaught in Goodwin’s Ferry, Virginia. After growing up in Virginia he joined the Army at 17 and was stationed in Alaska and went on to California where he met and married Roberta Robey on March 30, 1951. They moved from California to Florida where he joined Local 67 as a pipe fitter insulator and had their daughter Debra and son Steven. After an auto accident he went from the field into the office and became an estimator, superintendent of the trade in the mid 60’s. This is when he got his Captain’s license and began a charter fishing business on the weekends until 1974. He was a featured Captain on "Denmark Sporting Goods" sport fishing program on Channel 6 several times and was noted for being able to find the great fishing spots.
He retired from the Local in 1982 and they moved back to the mountains of Virginia to be closer and help with the care of his father. He had many years of retirement to enjoy the hobbies he loved and was able to spend a lot of time fishing and hunting.
They moved back to Orlando in 2009 to be closer to their family so they could help with his care. He and Roberta celebrated 61 years of marriage this year and after a long battle with dementia he passed away on Dec 17th.
