

Robert E. Kelly Sr., age 85, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013, in Orlando, Florida. He was born in Lockhart, Florida, northwest of Orlando. He was born and raised, and then, attended Lockhart Elementary School, off of Edgewater Dr., for grades 1-8. He graduated from Apopka High School, in the class of 1946.
When he was growing up; he hauled swell, worked at the Cadillac dealership as a chauffeur, hauled fruit with Charlie Stone, who got him into the trucking business. He was also the first fire chief in Lockhart serving as a volunteer. He loved to serve his community. He was involved with the Lockhart Lions Club, which he was the President at one time. He ran the turkey shoots, and would stand at red lights and stop signs to get donations for the organization to provide eye wear to the needy. He did corn boils, chicken BBQ's, hoedowns, fertilizer sales, rummage sales and so many other things. He was involved in the building of the old fire department, by pouring the asphalt, which made the tennis court and basketball court, which was donated by Basic Asphalt. He is a member of the Lockhart Baptist Church. He had his own trucking business called, Kelly Brothers Trucking, where he hauled sand and rock out of Finfrock.
He raised two fine men; Robert E. Kelly Jr., and Dr. Rev. Bruce A. Kelly. He was married to his wife, Marion, for 48 years, until she departed in 2003. He has 4 grandsons; Paul, Tim, John, and Kyle; 2 granddaughters Ashlie, Kendall; and 2 great-grandchildren Destynie and Gabriell.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to be made to: Deaf Baptist Church, 3000 Jonquil Drive, Smyrna, GA 30080.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, at Woodlawn Funeral Home (400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Fl. 34734, 407- 293-1361). At 11:00 am, a Celebration of Life Service will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed with the internment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
