Commander Robert E. (Bob) Turnage, (SC) U. S. Navy passed away December 19, 2010 after a short illness. He was born in Benton, IL. March 4, 1925, and graduated from the Benton Township High School, (Class of 1943). Bob was the first Benton graduate to attend the Naval Academy, (Class of 1947). He served in the Navy supply corp. for 26 years, 9 of which were at sea or based overseas.
Bob and his wife Ingeborg had been active in several bridge clubs in the Orlando area, including the University Club in Winter Park.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert Ezra and Ethel Williams Turnage and sister Juanita Lander. He is survived by his wife, Ingeborg, of Orlando FL; sister Patricia G. Hanagan (Marion, IL.), children Kathryn A. McKinney (Don) of Columbia, SC, Robert Jeff Turnage (Starla) of Columbia (SC); Steve Asmann (Kathy) of Clermont, FL; Barry Asmann (Terry) of Knoxville, TN and Monica (Jack) Puryear of Leander, TX. and 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 5 nieces and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be Monday, Dec. 27 at 2 PM in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
