Vernon Pereira, 81 years old, of Clermont, Florida, passed away on January 2, 2026, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and most importantly his beloved wife at his bedside. Vernon was born on November 24, 1944, in San Juan Trinidad to Cyprian Pereira and Edith Mahadaou.
Vernon spent his early years in San Juan, Trinidad mastering several trades, a foundation that shaped his lifelong love of working with his hands. After moving to Philadelphia in the late 1970s, he built a long and dedicated career with Mellon Bank, where he worked for more than 25 years.
A true craftsman at heart, Vernon had a passion for DIY projects and could often be found tinkering with home repairs, small car fixes, or tailoring. Yet nothing brought him more joy than keeping his Trinidadian roots alive through cooking—especially his beloved “fried bakes, and roti skins” a favorite among family and friends.
He will be remembered most for his warm, kind, and quiet spirit. Though small in physical stature, Vernon carried a heart of extraordinary generosity. Anyone fortunate enough to be in his favor knew the depth of his kindness and likely holds countless “Vernon”—or as many knew him, “Vivian” or “Jago”—stories to cherish for a lifetime.
Vernon is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Irma; his sister Diana; his brothers Rueben, Frederick, George, and David; his sons Nicholas Pereira and Scott Pereira; his daughters Laura James and Yuklyn Mcleod; his son-in-law Steven Mcleod and his daughter-in-law Faye Pereira. He leaves behind thirteen grandsons, five granddaughters, fourteen great-grandchildren, mother-in-law Agnes, and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law and friends all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his mother Edith, father Cyprian, and sisters Marjorie and Esther. Brother-in-laws Dawn and Lincoln and sister-in-law Carmalita.
A service to honor Vernon’s life will be held on January 11, 2026, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Memorial Road, Gotha, Florida 34734.
Sympathy cards can be sent to 2337 Golden Aster Street, Clermont Florida 34711 and floral arrangement to the funeral home.
