It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and true outdoorsman, Gary David Turnquist, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, who left us on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Gary served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. His strength, courage, and unwavering sense of duty were hallmarks of the way he lived his entire life.
A man of many passions, Gary was never happier than when he was out on the water fishing at sunrise or deep in the woods during hunting season. He was a dedicated sportsman through and through—whether it was bowling a perfect game, cheering on his favorite teams, or watching NASCAR on Sundays, he lived and breathed the thrill of competition and camaraderie.
He was a devoted family man, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who never missed a chance to share a story, offer wisdom, or simply be present. For fifty-five beautiful years, he shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Kathy, the love of his life, who stood by his side through every season.
Gary will be remembered for his generous spirit, his quick wit, and his ability to make everyone feel like a friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Kathy; daughters Kimberly Ann (Guy) Jones and Erica Lynn (Michael) White; grandchildren Ethan Michael, Avery Elizabeth and Oliver Joseph; brother Lee Alan (Nancy) Turnquist; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents David and Betty, sisters Susan and Cheryl and brothers Kevin and Brian.
In honor of Gary, memorial contributions may be made to the Aleda E. Lutz Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
