Ingeborg “Inge” Elisabeth Garlick, 77, of Grand Blanc, passed away on October 25, 2016 after a courageous post-operative battle. Inge was born on December 19, 1938 in Kiel, Germany to parents Henry Fritz August Schultze and Anna Maria Schultze. An incredibly feisty, independent, unique, athletic, beautiful, and strong-willed woman, she left her native Germany at the age of 18 for New York City. In addition to modeling and working at Radio City Music Hall, she developed several life-long friendships during this time. After some time at New York University, Inge ended up at Oakland University in Rochester, MI where she met Paul. She spent the bulk of her adult life as a devoted wife and incredible mother and Oma to her three sons and eight grandchildren. The Mathematics Department at the University of Michigan – Flint was her second home for much of this time where she taught with Paul. Inge loved watching her sons play soccer and became actively involved in both the Grand Blanc and Flint soccer communities for many years. She loved traveling and would return to Germany frequently, in addition to regular visits to Connecticut, Kansas and New York. Inge was also an avid gardener and loved caring for flowers at home and at the family cottage. She is survived by her three sons, Xan Toulouse Garlick of Ridgefield, CT, Paul Thorsten Garlick of Overland Park, Kansas and David Dieter Garlick of Brooklyn, New York in addition to her daughters-in-law, Terri, Beth and Elissa and eight grandchildren, Hannah, Matthew, Paul, Ellie, Henry, Mary, Sarah, and Senna. Inge is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of thirty years, Paul King Garlick, and her three brothers, Werner, Gerhard, and Gunter Schultze. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00am preceded by light breakfast for all guests at 9:00am. Both will be at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI 48439. A private family burial will follow at the Port Austin Township Cemetery in Port Austin, MI.
