

NEWTOWN, Ralph – Age 91, of Flint, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Mr. Newtown was born September 9, 1920 in Bass Lake Twp., Minnesota the son of Isaac and Jessie (Newton) Newtown. He served his country during W.W.II with the Marines in the South Pacific, where he was Chief Mechanic for Aircraft. After the war Ralph returned to Flint and ran two gas stations. He then went to work for Chevrolet where he was a Fork Lift Truck Repairman for 32 years, retiring in 1981. Ralph was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was very active as Sunday School Superintendant for 18 years and as a Deacon. Ralph met his wife Jean Marie Oliver in Southern California at the Christian Serviceman’s Organization and they married in 1945. Jean preceded him in death. Surviving are their children, James Newtown, Robert (Debra) Newtown, Joyce Newtown; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Freda Donaldson, Lois Dingman, Merle (Donald) Chrysler; sister-in-law, Merle Newtown of N. Carolina; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Newtown was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Calvin and Earl (Bud) Newtown. Friends may visit the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 6434 Richfield Rd., Flint, MI. Pastor Jack Dowden will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
