Richard L. Donovan, age 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and cherished memories. Born on April 24, 1951, Richard lived a life full of warmth, joy, and deep devotion to those he loved.
Richard was a man who found happiness in the simple pleasures of life—playing baseball with a passion, riding dirt bikes in his younger years, relaxing on his pontoon boat on Houghton Lake, and hosting summer barbecues filled with food, fun, and family. He had an unmatched enthusiasm for holidays, especially Christmas, which he celebrated with the spirit and wonder of a child. Richard also had a passion for movies and was always ready with a recommendation or a well-timed quote to make you laugh.
With an infectious sense of humor and a kind-hearted nature, Richard had the unique ability to make friends wherever he went. He was the kind of man who could strike up a conversation with a stranger and part ways with a new friend. His laughter was a gift to those around him, and his genuine love for life was evident in every story he told and every moment he shared.
Above all, Richard loved his family deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Donovan; his daughter, Katrina (Jeremiah) Emerick; and his son, Jeramy (Elizabeth) Donovan. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Karlie Chase, Kaitlin (Jeff) Hamilton, Chance (Hannah) Saunders, Bella and Chase Donovan, and Wyatt and Ellie Buckhold.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Leighanna Chase, Elly and Evie Hamilton, and Stella Saunders. Richard leaves behind his siblings Bob (Janis) Donovan, Tammie Cooper, and Kevin (Daniela) Hudie, who will carry on his memory with fondness and love.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Barb and Lee Hudie, and Robert Donovan, as well as his brothers, John and Jerry Hudie.
A memorial to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at a later date. In the meantime, his family invites friends and loved ones to honor his memory by sharing a smile, telling a joke, or simply spending time with those who matter most—just as Richard would have wanted.
Richard’s light will be missed, but never forgotten. His laughter echoes in our hearts, and his love continues to guide us every day.
