Sydney was born April 10, 2008 in Southfield, MI to David and Michelle (Tissot) Nielsen. She attended Dowdall Elementary in Flint where she had many, many friends. She won the hearts of her teachers and was described as an excellent student who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She began reading at an advanced level at an early age; coming home from school, truly upset that they didn’t teach her to read on the first day. Some of her favorite books were Junie B. Jones, Judy Bloom, and Fancy Nancy. Sydney’s most current book that she was working on was “Dear Dumb Diary.” She loved the old Tom and Jerry cartoons, Maroon 5, watching The Voice, and Disney’s Frozen. One of her favorite singers was Etta James’ “At Last.” Sydney was a girly girl…loving Barbies, shopping, purses, high heels, and all that was glitzy and glamorous. She was often shy when first meeting her but after she opened up she was all smiles and giggles. Sydney spread light around wherever she went. She loved spending time with her mother, brother, and sister. Surviving are her father, David (Kari Baker) Nielsen; mother, Michelle (Matt Stepp) Nielsen, brother, Shayne Cairl; sister, Olivia Cairl; future step-brothers, John Baker and William Baker, Grandmother, Marsha (Lester Barrett) Sukup; special aunt, Melissa (Dominic) Coon; special cousin, Trista Coon; special friend, Lori Barrett, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Weldon and Elda Ruth Barrett, Fred and Linda Blankenship, Mary Ann Kozan, and the caregivers and doctors at Mott Children’s Hospital PICU. Those desiring may make contributions to the family. Online condolences may be shared with the family online at www.hillfh.com.
