Theodore Raymond Hunt, age 83, passed away February 3rd at Medilodge of Midland Michigan. Theodore was born July 20th 1934, the youngest of 14 siblings, to Harry and Olive Hunt in Brant Michigan. In 1943 the family moved to Saginaw Michigan. On November 27th 1953 Ted married the love of his life, Gladys Fern Averill. He always joked that he "never had a chance" because at nine years old when he was introduced to his class at Vincent school in Saginaw, Gladys told the other girls “I’m going to marry him someday”. The couple didn’t date until the end of high school, but were inseparable going forward. On their very first date, Ms. Averill was “baptized” - she was thrown in a wading pool in the Hunt’s backyard at a family gathering - right along with everyone else. In 1955 the couple welcomed their first Son, Theodore Randel Hunt. Seven years later their youngest, Todd Raymond Hunt was born. Ted owned and operated Hunt’s Modern Cleaners in Saginaw during the late fifties and sixties before getting into the restaurant business in 1972. He was restaurant manager at McDonalds in Saginaw, Owosso and East Lansing until 1979, Johnnies Bonanza in Saginaw until 1990, and Old Country Buffet until his retirement in 2001. During this time he mentored hundreds of young adults and positively affected their lives. Ted loved to travel, and during the sixties and seventies took the family on many long road trips, including Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Canyon, Smoky Mountains, Florida and to the east coast of the U.S. to visit relatives. He had a knack for finding the scenic route, never admitting to being lost, only bewildered. Once a trip to pick up a new family cat in Detroit took them through Sault St. Marie and back down through Ontario. Mr. Hunt also loved fishing with his Father in Law, Louis H. Averill (deceased) playing golf with his son Todd, and enjoying the company of the couple’s three cats. He also had a passion for sports, and was a referee and umpire. This lead to him being instrumental in starting the Saginaw Township South Little League in the early 1960’s. Surviving are his wife Gladys, Son Todd, Granddaughter Theresa (Paul) Britton, Grandson Theodore (Nicole) Hunt and three Great grandchildren. Two sisters, Betty Miller of Seekonk Massachusetts and Lottie Treffry of Levering Michigan as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Friday February 9th visitation at Oakwood Mausoleum will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral is Saturday February 10th at 11 a.m., visitation beginning at 10 a.m at Oakwood Mausoleum 5950 Gratiot Rd in Saginaw.
