My fondest memory of dad is making dinner rolls for Thanksgiving.  Dad still had his Army cookbook. He would pull it out every Thanksgiving morning and start to make the dinner rolls.  He would call us kids to the kitchen when it was time to knead the dough.  It would take up the entire table.  A table that would sit ten.  We would have so much fun punching the dough until our arms were tired.  Those rolls were the best I have even eaten.

I loved to make dilly beans and made many quarts throughout the years. One year I didn't have enough room to plant my green beans and I was talking to Mr. and Mrs. Green about my lack of beans. Mr. Green told me I could get some out of their garden. I went home and grabbed a bushel basket to take over and fill. Mr. Green was not home so Mrs. Green told where to pick. They were overripe but beggars can't be choosy! Later they told me that she had sent me to the overripe patch and Mr. Green took me out to the perfect beans. I then was able to use my Mr. Green beans in my recipe! 😄

I haven't seen Mr. Green for almost 40 years. He was our next-door neighbor. What I remember most is him helping my mother with her garden and how friendly he was. My recollection was that he always had a smile on his face and was willing to help in any way he could. He was a very good man. A very good benefit to his family and community. He will definitely be missed. Roger D. Linn.



I remember Mr. Green always smiling. I don't think there was a time that he wasn't smiling.  He also helped my parents as they got older. When me and my partner Bob would go over to rake my parents leaves ( M/M Linn), he would come over with his tractor and haul the leaves to the garden. I know my parents appreciated his help. I also remember he would plant sun flowers on my parents garden area. My younger brother, sister and I spent just as much time over to the Green's as we did at our home. He would always joke with us, sometimes you didn't know if he was telling the truth or not. He was such a good person. I last saw him 2 years ago, and I enjoyed talking with him. And yes,  he was smiling.

Mr. Green was my neighbor when I was growing up and remained a neighbor to my parents until both of my parents had passed away.
I knew him from the time I was 4 years old.  I baby sat his kids while he and Reta dated.  He'd tell me to make sure they all went to bed by 9pm---that NEVER happened.  I'd hustle them to bed about 11 and would tell them to pretend they were asleep if their parent's looked in on them.  Mr. Green would ask me if I wanted him to walk me home {I literally lived next door}-I'd say "No" but secretly I wanted him to because I was scared to death of going down his long tree-lined driveway because me & his "sleeping kids" had been watching the spooky "Tales from the Cript" TV shows.  He was a great neighbor and we all considered him and the entire family part of our own family.   He truly will be missed.  Teresa Linn-Gregory

Wherever I took dad I would hear awwww! This memory started at his Dr's appointment, Dr would come in and say aww look at how cute you are.  Would fuss over dad. Our appointment wrapped up n he heard dad ask me to put his socks n shoes back on. Dr then said to dad wow she has to be your favorite daughter, of course dad would speak up as say what was on his mind, he said no she's not. So, we continue to his foot Dr's appointment, the ladies enjoyed seeing dad say how sweet, adorable he is, how many children did he have, n I had to be his favorite.  His eyes would light up with a huge smile he'd say NOPE he'd proudly say PAMMIE is his favorite we'd LOLthen they would ask my name, I'd say Judy! People setting in office would look puzzled at my reaction I was fine. So, then I share this with my sister's and brother's.  Dad finally when we asked who's your favorite son! He face and eyes would light up saying BILLY. we as a family would LOL so hard, we all knew dad loved us all, ❤️  It was a honor to care for you dad! Love you.

      I remember how Dad loved his shoes shined.  I would get the polish out and line up all his shoes outside and polish and buff away.  He paid us .25 cents a pair.  I’m pretty sure I’d shine the ones that didn’t need shining too.  
     Another fond memory is being late for catching the school bus and he would give me a ride in his plumbing truck.  I would sit on a pile of stuff in the front seat.  I think I was late many times so I could ride with him to school. 
     He was a fun Grandpa too! My kids got to enjoy watching the Sunset on the gulf while visiting in Florida with Mom and Dad.  He would pay them a dollar to just sit still and watch the sunset with him.  We got to enjoy getting a bunch of seafood at the store and going to the condo and cooking a big fish fry together.  Mom would be doing her puzzles and laying out the seashells to dry that the kids collected. 
      Another real fond memory was Nisa and I and family playing poker with Dad and we got a bunch of branch’s candy and divided it up and played for candy. It was hard to win against Dad! 

     

It’s been many years since I’ve seen Grandpa but my memories will always be so fond and full of love. He always knew how to make us feel loved and to have fun. I remember laying on his belly as a little girl i can still feel his warmth. We had so much fun together 

As the circle of life comes to an end for my father Willie Clay Green, and as his son Kevin Martin Green the circle of life continues on.  Reflects on his father and son relationship. Remembering when he would tell me how I picked on him when I first met him at the age of 4 years old. How I would tell him you cant tell me what to do, your not my dad. That was until he had enough and disciplined me. I think that was the turning point in our relationship. The point where he became a father to me and I became a son to him. From that point on our bond became stronger everyday. Remembering when as a young boy helping him in the garden. Not always liking it but still enjoyed being with him doing what he really enjoyed. Remembering when we would go smelt fishing.  How we had to stop and buy out the candy store and get some apricot brandy to keep us warm at night LOL Remembering how as a kid your dad is hard on you sometimes. Thinking how wrong he is just to realize how right he was once your older and can understand the valuable lessons of life he has taught you. The lessons of treating others with respect, morals, loving your family, and loving each other. I will always love those hard life lessons you have taught me as a father does for a son. I thank you for the man you have made me today. I am proud to say you are my father. I love and will miss you until we meet again! LOVE YOUR SON KEVIN

One of my favorite memories is when Chancie and I went to visit dad. We showed up to walk his dogs, clean, and anything else he needed. When we got there, we couldn't find him. We went outside and he was in the back yard driving his Cadillac around the yard. We asked him what he was doing and said he wanted to practice driving since his drivers license was taken from him. He said to us, "Get in." We  climbed in the back seat and he drove us around the back yard and around the big circle driveway! He practiced backing up, turning, and drove slowly. Chancie and I laughed at him. It was fun. Luckily he did not hit anything! 
Another funny memory is when I was 9 or 10 years old he drove us to Tennessee to see his mother. The whole trip down , he talked about snakes. He had me scared by the time we got there. It was dark when we arrived. I had to use the bathroom and asked my grandma to use her bathroom.  She said honey....it is right down that path just a little ways. I will get you a light and wait here for you. She pointed to an outhouse. I was terrified. She reassured me it would be ok. She gave me a light. I started slowly walking down the path, looking for snakes. I got a few steps into the journey... and all of the sudden I felt a sharp pinch at my right ankle...I started screaming and shaking my right foot, thinking I had been bit by a snake! I turned to look behind me to discover it was my dad that had pinched my ankle to scare me! He was laughing so hard. I was scared out of my mind! His mother scolded him for scaring the daylights out of me!  I can only laugh now looking back.

To Judy, Billy, Denise, Jeff, Pammie, Kevin, Renee and Kelly ... We all grew up together and your dad has a special place in our hearts and memories.  

I remember how he'd be pulling in the driveway after a long day of working and all of us kids would see him and go running toward his pickup - we had to catch him before he parked and got out of the truck because we wanted a ride in the back of the pickup!  We'd all clamor into the back and he'd take us for a little ride up Center Road (you sure couldn't do that now, could you?!).  All those little kids just laughing and having fun.  I don't believe your dad ever once told us no - no ride today.

And I can still picture him in my mind driving his tractor plowing the gardens.  I think he must have really enjoyed that time.

He'll forever be "the old man" and I'll forever be "the ugly little girl next door" but with the fondest of memories.  (some of you will know what I'm talking about, for those that don't - ask Judy!)

2001,  being the hillbilly farmer he was, Bill challenged me to a pumpkin growing contest.....what he didn't know, is that I got internet seeds from a 900lb pumpkin and got a 200 pounder......KICKED HIS BUTT.....and, that's how I became the "stupidest Son-in-law" forever...lolol.......you will be always loved, and missed!!

Bill used a lot of sugar in his coffee. Big Boy restaurant had a large bowl of sugar just for Bill.
Bill loved stealing ladies purses when we were all together.  He always gave them back, of course .
He was always so sweet

We are so sorry to hear of  your Dad’s passing. He was such a kind and humorous gentleman. Seeing the dedication and respect you continually showed him is admirable, always making his needs a priority. You were so good to him. You are a wonderful daughter.
