Betty Lou Hawkins
February 10, 1935 - April 27, 2015
Betty Lou Hawkins died at home on April 27, 2015.
Born February 10, 1935, at home to Harley and Mary (Duffy) Williams on their farm in Collbran, she was the youngest of eight siblings who include Ida (Howard) Newby; Edward (Althea); Edna (Marvin) Bailey; Paul (Cookie); Agnes (George) Slagehaupt; Evelyn (Ray) Osborn, and Joan (Buck) Hutton. She attended Little Creek School and Collbran Union High School.
Betty traveled to England after graduation in 1953.
She met Danny Roy Hawkins, and the couple were married on July 11, 1954 in Collbran. Three sons were born to this union, Daniel R., David R., and Daren H.
Six farms and six moves later, she came to run her ranch with oldest son, Daniel, for the next 47 years. Betty was a very hard worker. She managed up to 50 head of cattle nearly alone. She cooked at P.V. School and Job Corps over 40 years. She cleaned condos and houses everywhere. When things went wrong she would simply say ""we just need to work harder"". She made hundreds of quilts, sent a card for every ocassion to thousands, and never forgot a face or a name.
Betty's only grandson, Micah D. Hawkins and his girlfriend, Tamra Halley, welcomed her great-grandson, Kaden Roy Hawkins, into the world on April 22, 2015. Sadly, she never got to meet him.
In lieu of cards or flowers, donations can be sent to Plateau Valley School, c/o Ruth Shepheardson for the Future Farmers of America program or simply Betty Hawkins Molina, CO.
Betty touched thousands of lives and many thought of her as ""mom"" or ""grandma"".
Cremation has taken place. A day to stop and say hi will be held at P.V. School Sunday, May 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. on the football field.
