Billie J. Dodd
July 11, 1928 - March 4, 2016
Billie J. Dodd of Grand Junction passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016.
Billie was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on July 11, 1928, to Mabel Hesse and Edgar E. Dodd. He attended schools in Oklahoma City, entering into the Army in 1946. Billie was first stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, and later deployed to Korea and Japan during the Korean Conflict. He retired in February, 1967, after 20 years serving in the Armed Forces.
Billie and Clarice Wykes were married in 1955, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. To this union W. Bradley Dodd was born in 1956 in Colorado Springs.
He and Clarice then moved to Grand Junction where they began their second career. Upon retirement from the Armed Forces, Billie was employed as a manager with Ultronix and CAPCO in the Grand Junction area and retired in 1990. Clarice passed away in Grand Junction on November 18, 2005.
Billie began a lifelong love of the golf game early in life, as well as a talent for ping pong and pool. He continued with his passion for golf in his twilight years and enjoyed local tournaments. Although he was modest about his game, word was that he was an excellent golfer. He was very proud of shooting his age on his 72nd birthday. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time on the Grand Mesa. Billie enjoyed old movies, I Love Lucy, and Lawrence Welk reruns. A great joy in his later years was his beloved Ginger, a rescue Chihuahua.
Billie and Nona Dale were married at Crossroads United Methodist Church on April 2, 2008. They both were members of this church. With this marriage, Billie ""acquired"" three step-daughters (something new in his life). He was a gentle, caring soul who, with love, took his new family in stride.
Mr. Dodd is survived by his wife, Nona; son, Brad of Durango; grandson, Cameron (Andrea) of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter, Kirsten of Durango; great-grandson, Jace, and great-granddaughter, Jaiden. Also surviving are his brother, Willard (Betty) of Houston, TX. His sister and three half-sisters preceded him in death. His extended family includes step-daughters, Peggy (Stuart) Powell, Janine (Lee) Kreidler, and Kelly (Larry) Christian.
At his request Mr. Dodd was cremated with a private family service.
