August 6, 1942 - December 12, 2013
Carolyn passed away during her favorite holiday season, Christmastime.
Her parents, Eunice and J.V. Davis, raised her in Speegleville, Texas. A farmer's daughter, she learned to love and ride horses. She attended Midway High School in Waco, Texas, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She and her high school girlfriends always found time to get together annually even as the years flew by. While at Midway, Carolyn was a cheerleader, a Future Farmer of America, and a basketball player (until she got kicked off the team for throwing her elbows, a fact that caused her great delight in its re-telling!). At age 16, she was named ""Miss Good Posture of McLennan County"". After graduating in 1960, she attended Baylor University, where she became a lifelong Bears fan. She earned her BBA in Secretarial Studies in August, 1964. Her first job was at North American Aviation in McGregor, Texas. Looking for adventure, she and a friend drove to Seattle where she found a job in the Space Division at Boeing. She worked for Don Love, who later became her brother-in-law.
After leaving Seattle she settled in Kellogg, Idaho, and found work with Bunker Hill Mining Co. She met Bill Love and they married in Pullman, Washington, in 1972. Their first home was in Pinehurst, Idaho. During that time she and Bill embarked on the biggest adventure of their lives: a trip around the world in their Cessna Skymaster. They spent seven months visiting twenty-three countries. Carolyn loved her many travels with Bill; she rode a camel in Egypt and an elephant in Thailand. In later years they went on an African safari and rode riverboats on the Mississippi and Columbia Rivers. They toured by train through the Canadian Rockies and travelled the Panama Canal and Central America. When she was in town, Carolyn participated in Wednesday Music Club, the Art Colony, Brush & Palette, Camaraderie, and Tuesday Night ""No Name"" Dinner Club. She was a mentor for Partners as well as a director for Grand Valley Magazine. She played a raucous game of ""Hand and Foot"" with her closest friends every Friday.
Carolyn was loving, caring and giving. She had a sparkling smile that welcomed any and all into her life. She will truly be missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a brother, Jeff Davis (Jean) and a sister, Missy Davis (Joleen Eiklenborg) of Waco, TX; two step-sons, Robert Love (Suzanne) of Grapeview, WA, and Michael Love (Connie) of Silverton ID; a step-daughter, Tamara Verby (Steve) of Sandpoint, ID; two nieces, Joycie Pustejovsky (Gary) of Abbott, TX, and Donna Holmes (Dub) of Crawford, TX; seven grandchildren, Katie Love, Kevin Love, Jenna Munoz (Hugo), Jillian Klaucke (Jonathan), Kara Verby, John Love and Valerie Love; one great-grandchild, Daniella Munoz; and close special friends, Heather Christensen and her daughter, Carissa.
Springtime services are pending. A scholarship fund for art and music has been established in her honor. Donations may be sent to CMU Foundation, 1450 N. 12th St., Grand Junction, CO, 81501. Reference the Carolyn D. Love Scholarship Fund.
