He was born in Dilke, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 13, 1934, to Emil and Caroline (Hein) Gessell, the sixth of twelve siblings.
Clarence married his loving wife, Roberta Schutte, in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 2, 1956. They moved to Carbondale, Colorado in 1965 and raised their three sons in the Rocky Mountains sharing adventures that included boating, camping, and many other outdoor activities. His favorite moments were those spent on his boat at Lake Powell water skiing, tubing, fishing, and soaking up sunshine.
Clarence was always the life of the party, and his friends and family enjoyed his entertaining stories of both past and present. He could talk to anyone and had a great sense of humor.
He was an electrician by trade, working in the coal mines of Colorado for 45 years. He had a knack for being able to fix anything, often improving it in the meantime.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; his sons, Shane (Denise) Gessell, Bruce Gessell; his six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian (Judith) Gessell.
In keeping with Clarence’s wishes, the family will be holding a private celebration of life rather than a traditional memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
