Dorothy Mae Berndt

Dorothy (Dot) was born October 19,1923 to John and Grace Van Meerten in a suburb of Chicago Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles(Chuck) Anthony Berndt.

Dorothy is survived by her 3 children, son Charles(Susan) Berndt, daughter Sandra(Kenneth) Oamek and daughter Sharon Tuckett.

Dot has 9 grandchildren. Douglas, Gregory, Alex, Carlyn, David, Douglas, Katherine, Kirsten and Karolyn. She also leaves behind many great grandchildren. Those who were privileged to have experienced her love will remember her fondly.

Dot was the youngest of 9 children. All 8 siblings preceded her death. John Jr 1st Van Meerten, John Jr 2nd Van Meerten, Alberta McDonald, Raymond Van Meerten, Marvin Van Meerten, Richard Van Meerten, Robert Van Meerten and Marian Winterfeldt.

Her memory lives on with all her many nieces and nephews, some often thought of her as their 2nd mom while growing up. Dot will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and her daughter Sandra’s best friend. Dorothy’s winning smile, wisdom and lavish love will be missed by all who knew her. A special mention of gratitude for caregivers Tania, Crystal and Joleen at La Villa Grande Care Center. Thank you for your tender care.

Dot’s devotion extended to animals all her life. She received so much joy from her pets. The family requests memorials be made in her memory to your local Animal shelter. A celebration of Life will take place at a time and place yet to be arranged.
