November 7, 1930- August 29, 2017
Our beautiful mother, Elsie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 29, 2017 at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation and Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. She was surround by many family members and friends, she was prayed over, sang over, and talked to as she was preparing to take her journey. As in her life she left this earth with grace and beauty and she will be missed by a multitude of people that she had a lasting encounter with her, where she showed them love, acceptance, and compassion and she will be met by many others in heaven.
She was born on November 7, 1930, in Lagrita, CO where she was one of eight children from the union of Elesea Ortega and Frank Vigil. She spent most of her life in the western slope, she lived in Hotchkiss, Leadville, New Castle, just to name a few, and she was a long time resident of Grand Junction. She spent her early years going to school in Hotchkiss and years later went back and got her GED. She married Frank Chavez, and they were blessed with three children, Fred, Judy and Anthony. She later married the love of her life, Henri Tailleur. He gave his name to her three children and always thought and loved them as his family. They were married for 46 years until his death in 2003, not one day passed that she didn't miss him terribly.
She spent her life performing a variety of jobs; she had been a waitress, a nurse’s aide, a hospital aide, a teacher’s aide, a home manager, and others. Our Mom felt blessed in having three wonderful children, she always was grateful, happy, forgiving and helpful to all three of children even into their adulthood.
In 1999 one of her biggest dreams came true with the birth of her only grandchild, Maryah; never did anyone see a more joyful and proud grandma. Along the way there were many that thought of her as a second mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Crista, Justin and Mallory Knoll, Patricia Amrine, Jason Guerrero and Felix Jemminz to name a few. She had two dear Godchildren, Marlana and Taylor Distel, who were beside her to her last day and she loved them enormously. She will be remembered by many for her ""open door policy"", her kindness, for her wonderful cooking, her humor, and the always great time socializing. If you were friends of one of her beloved, than you would be welcomed, too
She was also a friend to many pets, she enjoyed her dogs and cats throughout the years and will be missed by the ones she left behind. She was an expert in crocheting, she was a great cook, she enjoyed taking care of her roses and yard, and she was an avid reader and enjoyed watching her soap opera.
She was a member of the St Joseph Parish, where she had worked in the Eucharistic ministries and Extraordinary ministries for many years. She was truly a prayer warrior, every night and throughout every day, she enjoyed saying her prayers and rosary, she was secure in the Lord and He surely met her with open arms into His kingdom.
Our mom is preceded in death by brothers, Ernie Vigil and Frank Vigil; her sisters, Rose Gallegos and Jenny Tafoya; and her mother and father. She leaves behind her broken hearted children, and her grandchild, Maryah Tailleur; her daughters-in-law, Patricia Amrine and Angelia Tailleur; her brothers, Felix Vigil and Henry Vigil; her sisters, Elosia Mary Tafoya; and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary and viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Thursday September 5, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Services will take place at St Joseph on Friday September 6, 2017. There will be a potluck afterward.
Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation and Care Center for the wonderful care they gave our mom during her last few days, St Mary's Hospital, and Dr. Ivan Alkes for their dedication and care.
