Harue “Honey” Wiebke passed away peacefully at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center, Paonia, CO on June 5, 2016 at the age of 84. She gracefully lived through Parkinson’s disease for the past several years. Honey was born in Makaweli, Kauai to Shozo and Haru Ijima and was the youngest of 6 children. After high school, she ventured to Oahu, Hawaii and later to Southern California on the mainland.
Honey married Norman Wiebke and to this union, son Eric and daughter Wanda were born. Norman and Honey later relocated from Southern California to Grand Junction, Colorado where she enjoyed a host of hobbies as a homemaker including: sewing/crocheting, traveling (especially to Las Vegas!), adoring beautiful flowers and birds, reading and baking. Always eager to share and spread the aloha spirit and hospitality, Honey often hosted and welcomed Hawaiian students from nearby Mesa College in her home; she loved to cook traditional island cuisine to warm their hearts and encourage their studies.
In her memory, Honey leaves behind her loving husband Norman of 60 years, 2 children Wanda Wiebke of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Eric (Marcella) Wiebke of Sacramento, California, 2 siblings Tsurue Hashimoto of Waimea, Kauai and Charles Ijima of Kailua, Oahu , 1 grandson and a host of nieces and nephews on Hawaii and throughout the mainland.
In lieu of flowers, tributes can be made to the Michael J Fox foundation at (800) 708-7644 or on-line at https://www.michaeljfox.org/ or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (800) 457-6676 or online at www.pdf.org. On July 2, 2016 a graveside memorial will be held on the serene Garden Island of Kauai at the Kauai Memorial Gardens with Reverend Caroline Miura officiating.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center for their welcoming care and compassion and to all their friends and family everywhere offering heartfelt condolences.
