I had the most fortunate pleasure of meeting Jeff in the summer of 1994. I was a questioning young queer man, stuck in the midst of small town life and yet reaching for acceptance, and I had the luck of meeting Jeff at the local swimming pool. Laps upon laps ensued, and when he asked if I was training, that inquiry opened the door for something that would prove to be the step that, if nothing more, lead to my acceptance of myself as a person of queer culture, as a gay man. Jeff exposed me to culture. Jeff shared with me the reality that being queer was, in fact, not a death sentence, but an opportunity to LIVE. to LOVE. Jeff gave me the confidence to embrace the queer, and the accept the left of center was just about right, and to this day, Jeff gave me permission to be a silly queen, to be an artistic queen, and to buck the status quo. Mr. Jeffrey Alan Basinger, I will forever respect you and miss your place in this world. You gave me hope, and gave me permission to be the successful queer person I am today. Rest in power my friend. From now till the world ends, you will be my North Star. Thank you for being my friend. 

To the beloved family may the thoughts and memories of Jeffrey be of joy and comfort.  May the promises of God at John 11:25 give strength to endure during this most difficult time.
