John was born March 6, 1974 in East Chicago, Indiana to John J. Chutka and Debra Chutka. He graduated from West Central High School in 1992 where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He then went on to graduate from Purdue University in 1998 with a degree in construction management. In June of 1998, John moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to start his career at Skyline Contracting where he worked for 27 years.
In August of 1998, he met Sara Vig and her daughter Alyssa. The two later married on July 22, 2000 and went on to welcome two more children, a son Braden, and a daughter Caylee. John officially adopted Alyssa in the fall of 2000. The family lived in Palisade, Colorado after moving in 2010.
John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying family camping trips, hiking fourteeners, fishing, and especially his sacred hunting trips over the years with his son Braden, along with treasured family and friends. He was also a huge sports fan, always rooting for his beloved Chicago Bears, his alma-mater Purdue Boilermakers, and the Chicago Cubs. His favorite team of all was any team that his children happened to be playing on, specifically Palisade High School and Colorado Mesa University.
Very humble, mellow, even, and gentle, John was always extremely helpful and generous with everyone he met. He was a loyal hard worker who loved his family and loved to laugh.
