Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is always with you wherever you go.
Katherine (Kate), better known as Mom, was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota on December 19th, 1932, to Clara and Thomas Hawthorn. She had 7 brothers and sisters: Tom, Ken, Harvey, Darlene, Billy, Bob, and Carol. She has two surviving siblings, Carol and Bob.
Kate was a mother to 3 children. Kerry, Debbie, and Billy. She is survived by her daughter Debbie and her son Billy. She was a devoted and loving mother.
Along with her children, Kate helped raise a bonus daughter Amanda, whom she loved dearly.
Her personality could best be described as ornery, spunky, stubborn, sweet, sassy, and loving.
In 1995, Kate moved from Denver to Fruita, Colorado, so she could live out her golden years. Her brother Bill and sister Darlene also retired in Fruita so that they could all be together. The 3 Hawthorn musketeers are now re-united in heaven.
She volunteered at the Fruita Thrift Shop where she met her adopted daughter Shirley and her husband Jessie. Both of whom she adored.
She was employed in the medical field and retired from Fruita Hospital. She loved the patients.
She loved the Lord, going to church, visiting with family and friends, crafting, fishing, soap operas (she called them “soapies”), traveling, Bingo, and slot machines. Hard to tell in which order she loved them the most!
Kate and her daughter Debbie would often take off across the country visiting casino’s, family, and friends. She and her son Billy were avid fishermen.
She was so proud of her family and was blessed with 9 grandchildren. Richard (Sonny), Shay, Sheree, Dustin, Kerry Jr., Kim, Katrina, Amanda, and Amber. She has numerous great and great, great grandchildren as well.
In addition, Kate adopted so many other non-blood-related grandchildren, and had way too many nieces and nephews to even begin to count. She was loved, admired and cherished by so, so many.
Katherine was known as Mother, Mom, Sister, Grandma, Great Great Grandma, Grannie, Aunt Grannie, and Aunt Kate (Cake). She leaves behind a gigantic hole, and her memory will remain alive forever in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
