Katherine E. Gettman

September 24, 1910 - September 22, 2011

Katherine Gettman passed away September 22, 2011 in Cedaredge, CO, she was 100.

Katherine was born on September 24, 1910 in Kraft, Russia from the union of Jacob and Anna (Reichart) Loose. At the age of 6 months her young German parents sailed to the United States and settled in the Brush/ Ft. Morgan area, as did several other German immigrants during that time.

On April 27, 1930 she married Rhinney Gettman and raised four children. Rhinney preceded Kate in death in July of 1990, after sixty years of marriage. She moved to the Delta area from Denver in 1993 and gained many new friends. Work was an important part of Kate’s life from farm work, as a Baker at Woolworths in Lakewood, CO, and drapery maker with her daughter in Denver. She was an accomplished seamstress, designing and sewing wedding dresses and formals. She enjoyed crocheting many beautiful afghans, doilies and pot holders. But more than anything she was a wonderful mother and friend. Kate was also a member of the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church.

Kate leaves behind four children; three sons; Mervin (Laura) Gettman of Goochland, VA, Richard (Barbara) Gettman of Cedaredge, Co and Larry (Sharon) Gettman of Scottsdale, AZ and a daughter; Beverly (Jack) Gardner of Cedaredge, CO. Kate was blessed with nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and four grandchildren; Gregory Alan Gettman, Robert Leon Gettman, Leonard Wayne Gettman and Pamela Ann Gardner.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, CO.

A memorial service will held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church.
